FY 2027 Indian Housing Plan

Tribal Councils

IRHA is gathering housing priorities from Tribes across our service area for the FY 2027 Indian Housing Plan (IHP), which is due to HUD in mid-October. Please send proposed projects, community needs, or eligible activities as early as possible so IRHA has time to evaluate and develop them.

HUD needs an approved IHP before it can release IHBG funds, the main federal funding resource for housing for Tribes.

The Indian Housing Plan (IHP) is the annual plan required under the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act (NAHASDA). IRHA, as the Tribally Designated Housing Entity (TDHE), submits it to HUD each October. It describes how that year’s federal Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) funding will be spent on housing activities.

HUD needs an approved IHP before it can release IHBG funds, the main federal housing resource for Tribes. That’s why your Tribe’s input matters.

Annual blueprint

The IHP is each year's plan for addressing local housing needs effectively and responsibly.

Goals & Funding

It sets out housing goals, activities, funding allocations, and expected outcomes for tribal members.

Local Housing Needs

It identifies issues like overcrowding, needed repairs, homelessness risk, and infrastructure gaps.

Tribal Self-Determination

Tribes shape housing programs to fit their community's culture, geography, and economy.

The FY 2027 planning timeline. Sending priorities early gives IRHA time to review eligibility, cost, and any program development needed.
